The Asia Business Daily profiles Utopai Studios’ push to expand AI-assisted film and television production in global markets, including Korea. The report counts 25 projects in development and production across theatrical, television, streaming and digital channels, with five titles planned for release in 2027: the features Half Moon, Cortés and The Most Serious Fart, and the series Space Nation and Journey to the West – The Lost Five Hundred Years.
On Half Moon, the report says Korea’s Paper Barn Studios and Germany’s In Good Company are producing the film with Hyo-joo Yang writing and directing, and that principal photography began in Bonn, Germany. The production rests on live-action performance and director-led storytelling, with Utopai Studios’ AI system PAI used in a limited way for select visual elements.
The report adds that the degree of AI use varies by project, from limited use on Half Moon to AI animation as the primary production method on Journey to the West, and that the company frames AI as a tool that supports creators and helps overcome limits of time, cost and production scale.
