Deadline has the exclusive on Brazil’s Globoplay joining Space Nation, the eight-part science-fiction series from Ex Machina Studios that Utopai Studios is co-producing. According to the report, Globoplay, the streaming service of Brazil’s Globo, has acquired Brazilian rights to the series and will also co-produce it as a Globoplay Original.

Ex Machina CEO Marco Weber is co-creator and executive producer, and Martin Weisz is co-creator and directs all eight episodes. Weisz and Vanessa Coifman wrote the series, with Coifman also executive producing. Deadline notes that Utopai Studios plans to assist the production through its AI production system, that principal work is due to take place in Los Angeles in active alignment with Hollywood guilds, and that cast and a start date had yet to be set.

Manuel Belmar, Director of Digital Products at Globo, said the partnership reinforces Globoplay’s strategy of investing in stories with strong creative potential and global relevance, and that international co-productions play a growing role in that approach. Ex Machina Studios and K5 International are representing worldwide distribution rights at the Cannes market. Read the full report at Deadline.
