About us

Utopai is an AI-native film and television company. We develop and own original IP, produce it, and build the technology that makes it, all in one company. We operate across the US, Asia, and Europe, and we run three distinct businesses: our AI video platform, our production services, and our original slate.

We are at the stage where the operating layer is being built rather than maintained. That means the person in this role will create things that do not exist yet, and will have visibility into how a company gets constructed.

Role overview

The Strategy and Operations Manager is the connective tissue between our strategy and our execution. You will work directly with the VP of Strategy and Operations, and closely with the COO, Finance Lead, and department heads across production, product, marketing and sales.

This role suits someone who is equally comfortable building a financial view and fixing a broken process, and who takes satisfaction in building to help an organisation run with less friction than it did last quarter.

What you will do

Investor relations support

  • Draft and produce investor updates, newsletters, and board and investor materials
  • Build the analysis and supporting data behind them, and maintain the underlying tracking so that every number we report is consistent with the last time we reported it

Lead key strategic initiatives

  • Own discrete, high-priority company projects end to end, acting as an internal consultant to the business
  • Run the diagnostic work behind a decision: gather the data, structure the question, test the alternatives, and come back with a recommendation and the reasoning that supports it
  • Build the business case for new opportunities, including partnership and commercial structures, new markets, and new revenue lines, with the numbers and assumptions laid out plainly
  • Maintain a working view of the competitive and market landscape and translate it into implications for us
  • Support fundraising, diligence, and corporate development workstreams through analysis, materials, and data preparation

Annual and strategic planning

  • Support the design and running of our annual planning cycle, from goal setting through to quarterly review
  • Keep plans and budgets connected to each other, and make sure the plan on the page still matches what the company is actually doing three months later

Operational management and process optimization

  • Drive operational rigor across all functions, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives
  • Establish and document processes, implement and administer the tools that support them, and track and manage key company initiatives to completion
  • Implement policies, procedures, and working practices that improve how efficiently we operate and how well we use the resources we have

Performance measurement and analytics

  • Develop KPIs, dashboards, and reporting systems to track performance across teams and departments
  • Analyze data trends to inform strategic and operational decisions
  • Recommend improvements based on performance evaluation, benchmarking, and best practices

Financial planning and forecasting

  • Work with our Finance Lead on long-range forecasting, supplying the operational drivers and volume assumptions that sit underneath the model
  • Review financial statements, sales reports, and activity data to assess productivity and progress against goals, and identify where cost can come out or a process can be improved

What we are looking for

  • Three to six years in strategy, operations, corporate development, consulting, banking, or an operating role at a fast-growing company
  • Strong analytical and spreadsheet skills, and the ability to build something usable from data that arrives messy and incomplete
  • A track record of owning recurring deliverables and shipping them on time without being chased
  • Comfort with ambiguity, and the judgment to know when to ask and when to just decide
  • Nice to have: exposure to media, entertainment, or AI and technology, experience working across international teams
